Precision Dentistry

Diagnostic Excellence

Pinpointing the source of discomfort is the first step toward recovery. We utilize a combination of clinical expertise and advanced imaging to visualize what the naked eye cannot:

Lameness Exams: Comprehensive evaluations including flexion tests and diagnostic nerve/joint blocks.

ProStride® (APS)

A "point-of-care" treatment that combines highly concentrated white blood cells, platelets, and anti-inflammatory proteins.

The Benefit: It provides a natural, concentrated "soup" of healing factors that can be processed and injected in a single visit, offering long-term relief for osteoarthritis without the use of steroids.

IRAP (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein)

Specifically designed to block Interleukin-1, the primary protein responsible for joint inflammation and cartilage breakdown.

The Process: We collect the horse’s blood into specialized beads that stimulate the production of antagonist proteins. After 24 hours of incubation, the "anti-inflammatory" serum is harvested and injected into the affected joint.

Targeted Joint Support & Rehabilitation

Beyond regenerative medicine, we offer traditional intra-articular injections (Hyaluronic Acid and steroids), shockwave therapy and customized rehabilitation protocols. Pre-Purchase Examinations: Informed Decisions for Your Future Partner

A Pre-Purchase Exam (PPE) is an investment in peace of mind. Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive "snapshot" of a horse's health and soundness on a specific day, helping you assess whether the horse can meet your long-term goals.

The Clinical Evaluation

The exam begins with a thorough physical assessment to identify any existing conditions or conformational traits that may impact future performance.

Vital Systems: Evaluation of the heart, lungs, eyes, and skin.
Conformation Analysis: Assessing structural balance and hoof quality.
Neurological Screening: Ensuring the horse is coordinated and safe to ride.

Soundness & Movement

We evaluate the horse on various surfaces (hard and soft) and under different conditions to look for subtle irregularities.

Flexion Tests: Temporarily stressing specific joints to reveal hidden inflammation or soreness.
Movement Under Saddle: If requested, observing the horse performing its intended job to check for exercise-induced issues or gait asymmetries.

Advanced Diagnostics (The "Deep Dive")

While a physical exam is vital, imaging allows us to see what lies beneath the surface. We offer tiered diagnostic packages:

Digital Radiography (X-Rays): Assessing bone health, specifically in high-wear areas like hocks, fetlocks, and hooves.

It is important to remember that a PPE is not a "Pass/Fail" test. Instead, we provide a detailed risk assessment. We help you interpret the findings so you can decide if a horse’s specific needs—such as maintenance or corrective shoeing—align with your budget and expectations.

Artificial Insemination (AI): Expert management of both cooled-shipped and frozen semen, including precise cycle monitoring to time ovulation.
Pregnancy Monitoring: Routine ultrasound checks to confirm pregnancy, monitor fetal development, and identify potential twins early.

High-Risk Pregnancy & Foaling Support

Placentitis Screening: Monitoring placental thickness and discharge to prevent late-term abortion or premature birth.

The Critical First 24 Hours: Neonatal Care

A foal's health can change in an instant. Our neonatal services ensure your newborn gets the strongest start possible.

The "New Foal" Exam: Conducted within 12–24 hours of birth to check the heart, lungs, ribs, and umbilicus.
IgG Testing: A vital blood test to ensure the foal has received adequate antibodies from the mare’s colostrum. If "Failure of Passive Transfer" occurs, we provide plasma transfusions to jumpstart the immune system.

OCD Screening & Early Skeletal Health

As foals grow, monitoring skeletal development is crucial, especially in breeds predisposed to Developmental Orthopedic Disease (DOD).

OCD Screening Radiographs: We recommend early radiographic screening for Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD). By identifying bone and cartilage fragments in the hocks, stifles, or fetlocks while the foal is still growing, we can implement nutritional changes or minimally invasive treatments to preserve the horse's future athletic potential.

Integrative Sports Medicine

We offer drug-free alternatives to manage pain and improve mobility, often used in conjunction with traditional treatments to enhance a horse’s natural healing response.

Veterinary Acupuncture: By stimulating specific points on the body, we can modulate the nervous system to alleviate chronic back pain, improve gastrointestinal motility, and enhance athletic performance.
Mesotherapy: This technique involves a series of micro-injections into the middle layer of the skin (the mesoderm). It is highly effective for treating chronic neck and back pain by interrupting the "pain-spasm-pain" cycle, allowing horses to return to comfortable work.

Gastroscopy: We use a high-definition video endoscope to visualize the stomach lining in real-time. This is the only definitive way to diagnose Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
Biopsies: Whether for skin masses or intestinal health, we perform precise tissue sampling to provide definitive diagnoses and targeted treatment plans.

Many surgical procedures can be performed safely on-site, reducing the stress of transport for the horse and the owner.

Routine Castrations: Safe, efficient surgical removal of testicles.
Splint Bone Removal: Surgical excision of fractured or "blind" splint bones that are causing lameness or interfering with the suspensory ligament.
Enucleation: In cases of severe trauma or painful, non-visual eyes (such as advanced uveitis or tumors), we perform globe removal to restore the horse’s comfort and quality of life.
Laceration & Mass Repair: Expert suturing of traumatic wounds and the surgical removal of sarcoids or other skin tumors.

Equine emergencies are unpredictable and stressful. Our team is dedicated to providing rapid, expert intervention when your horse needs it most. Emergency Services for All Horse Owners

We provide emergency coverage for both our established patients and non-client horses in the region.

Current Clients: Benefit from priority dispatch and integrated access to their horse’s full medical history.
Non-Clients: We extend our emergency services to the broader equine community to ensure no horse is left without care during a crisis.

Haul-In Requirements

To ensure the most efficient medical response, we have established the following protocols based on your location:

On-Farm Response: Available for emergencies within our standard service radius.
Haul-In Protocol: If your facility is located more than 45 minutes away from our base, we require the horse to be hauled into our partnered location. This allows us to provide immediate treatment upon arrival and ensures we have full access to our advanced diagnostic equipment and pharmacy without the delay of extended travel time.

Advanced Referral Partnerships

While we handle a wide range of emergencies in the field and at our facility, some cases require 24-hour intensive care or specialty surgery.

If our team is unavailable due to concurrent emergencies, or if your horse requires a level of intervention beyond field capabilities (such as emergency abdominal surgery), we work closely with NC State Veterinary Hospital. Their world-class facility is our primary referral choice for:

What to Do in an Emergency

Call our emergency line immediately. Provide your name, location, and a brief description of the horse’s condition.
Keep the horse calm. If the horse is colicking, walking is only necessary if they are attempting to lie down and thrash violently.
Vital Signs: If safe to do so, check the horse's heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature to report to the veterinarian.
